Would “respect” if Ferrari doesn’t want Vettel anymore

(Motorsport-Total.com) – While Charles Leclerc will have his Ferrari contract until 2024, there is a big question mark about his teammate’s future. Sebastian Vettel’s contract expires at the end of the year, and it is still unclear whether the relationship between him and Scuderia will continue in 2021. Because they have not achieved their common goal, the world championship title, in five years.

And although there were some arguments between the two last year, Leclerc would have no problem if his teammate would also be called Vettel in 2021. “I can live well with having him next to me,” he emphasizes. “But I would respect Ferrari’s decision if they wanted to change anything.”

The next duel between the two Ferrari drivers is scheduled for 2020. Unlike last year, Vettel and Leclerc start the season with the same conditions. Quite a few therefore expect that there will be a crash on the route between the two.

In the past few weeks, however, both had emphasized several times that they had learned from events like Brazil and had a good relationship with each other. “We are both mature enough to distinguish what is happening on and off the track,” said Leclerc.

He can approach the season more relaxed anyway, because his future is clear. Vettel, however, has to fight for a new contract. “I know his position in a way, because I’ve only had one year contract in the past two years,” says Leclerc.

However, he does not believe that the situation will upset the Germans: “He is a very strong driver and I expect that he will also be very strong.”
