BRASILIA, KOMPAS.com – A Brazilian man named Jose Paulino Gomes, who is said to be the oldest man in the world died at the age of 127 on Friday (4/8/2023), reports a number of international media.
Jose died a week before turning 128, at his home in Pedra Bonita, Brazil.
According to international media, his family said he most likely died of organ failure due to his advanced age.

He was buried on Saturday, with his family around him.
According to the Khaleej Times, Gomes’ profession is known as an animal tamer, with him riding horses until four years ago.
He left behind seven children, 25 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Jose is known for not eating anything of industrial origin and for having a natural diet.
“He raises chickens, pigs. All his food comes from here, has to be grown or raised here. And he always likes to have a little drink,” says Jose’s granddaughter Eliane Ferreira.
Although his family is not entirely sure of his age due to a misplaced paperwork, a 1917 marriage certificate from the Pedra Bonita civil registry office shows Gomes’ date of birth as August 4, 1895.
“There was a woman nearby who was 98 years old. She said she knew Gomes when she was little. That’s when we were curious to determine her age and went to the registry office to find out the truth,” her granddaughter said.
“He must be over 100 years old, at least 110 years old. Now we need to know how that will be recorded on the death certificate,” he added.
The Guinness World Record for the oldest living person in the world is currently held by Maria Branyas Morera from Spain, who is 116 years old.

Meanwhile, the record for the oldest living person in the world is held by Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez Mora, at 114 years old.
