On October 5, 2023, World Teacher’s Day was celebrated. This day aims to contribute to quality education around the world.
It was in 1994 that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed October 5 as World Teachers’ Day, celebrating the great step taken in favor of teachers on October 5, 1966. , when a special intergovernmental conference organized by UNESCO in Paris, in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), adopted the recommendation concerning the condition of teaching staff.
This recommendation sets out the rights and duties of teachers, as well as the international standards applicable in areas such as initial and advanced training, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning conditions. Since its adoption, the recommendation has been considered an important set of guidelines aimed at improving the condition of teaching staff for the benefit of the quality of education.
In Mali, teachers continue to fight for better living and working conditions. Already for some teachers, thanks to their courage, synergy and dedication in recent years, things are already starting to move. Article 39, although not fully implemented, is already bearing fruit with the increase in salaries and other benefits.
On this special Teacher’s Day, on social networks, tributes are pouring in from everywhere to wish happy world day to the teachers who constitute the cement and the central software which programs the future.
“I would particularly like to salute the courage and resilience of the educational actors in our country who fight day and night to make education in areas with a strong security challenge a reality despite the difficulties,” wrote Abdoul Karim Maïga, doctoral student at G-Spot University.
For Issa Almahamoud, surgeon, teachers are more than lesson givers. They are a source of inspiration for all humanity.
