World Refugee Day between boleros and llanera music

The District Institute of the Arts, Idartes, commemorates the World Refugee Day with a concert that will be the first staging of the Compiled from sister peoples: back and forth musics for integration, a project that brings together Colombian and Venezuelan musicians.

This Sunday, from 2:00 pm in the Plaza de Lourdes de Chapinero, Attendees will be able to enjoy the presentations of 12 artists and a wide range of rhythms that recall what Venezuela and Colombia share musically., with a repertoire that sounds like boleros, llanera music and Latin American popular song.

The Compiled from sister peoples: Roundtrip music for integration, is a record work released last April, composed of 14 songs, by Colombian and Venezuelan authors.

“This was achieved under a process of repertoire exchange, in which it was sought to generate a twinning from the musical creation and the reinterpretation of music between these peoples to build ties of friendship,” explains Gabriela Abello, leader of the Mixtura del Idartes program.

This compilation is part of Mixtura, a project that the Idartes Music Management carried out during 2020 in partnership with UNHCR – the UN Refugee Agency and its Somos Panas campaign, to promote the integration of popular musicians from Bogotá and refugees and migrants. “We have fostered meeting spaces between these two populations and we hope that this space will bring us together around empathy, solidarity, and recognition of the other through music”, says Salomé Olarte, music manager at Idartes.

UNHCR’s motto for commemoration day is With the #refugees and displaced people.

During the second semester of 2021, within the framework of the ten years of Idartes, there will be a new phase of this project, with several meetings that include virtual concerts, forums, the presentation of a montage of the Crea del Idartes program and a second compilation, which will be released in December.
