Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director of the World Health Organization, said on Friday that he expects the pandemic to end in less than two years.
The official compared the situation at the moment with that of the Spanish flu of 1918, which lasted precisely that period (two years).
“As there is more technology today, and people are more connected, the possibility of the virus spreading, and even faster, is greater.” Still, he added, “so much technology and knowledge can also help stop the virus.”
According to figures from Johns Hopkins University, more than 22 million people tested positive for the covid-19 virus worldwide, and nearly 800,000 died.
