Workers of electrointensive companies march through A Coruña in defense of employment | Radio Coruña

Workers of electro-intensive companies, such as Alcoa San Cibrao and Alu Iberica, have marched this afternoon through the streets of A coruña, in a protest that has left the headquarters of the Board -in Monelos- to finish before the Government Delegation.

The protest was held under the slogan ‘For the defense of employment and the electro-intensive industry. Energy solution ‘, convened by Commissions Obrers, UGT and CIG.

During the rally before the Government Delegation, in the Plaza de Ourense, the workers chanted slogans in favor of the intervention of the two plants. Some have thrown eggs against the facade of the Delegation and there has even been some moment of tension with the riot control agents of the National Police who guarded the Government building in Galicia.

This mobilization was scheduled to take place last Friday, March 10, but was suspended due to the closure of A Mariña due to the coronavirus outbreak that prevented Alcoa workers from traveling.

However, the Department of Health has lifted mobility restrictions in most of A Mariña Lucense, with the exception of the Burela City Council, which remains closed, although it maintains the special prevention measures implemented throughout the area to stop the outbreak. of COVID-19 detected at the end of June.

In this way, the workers of Alcoa San Cibrao, in the Lugo municipality of Cervo, can now leave the region to attend this demonstration in the Herculine city.
