‘Workers in quarantine put under pressure’ • Catering Sint Maarten closed earlier

Since December, the FNV trade union has received eighty reports of people in quarantine who are being pressured to come to work anyway. That’s what it writes AD. This mainly concerns people who are in isolation because they have been in contact with an infected person. Three reports were also received from people who had tested positive themselves. Most complaints came from the healthcare sector.

“We understand that companies are under pressure, especially the vital sectors and especially now with the high absenteeism due to illness in combination with the tight labor market,” José Kager told the newspaper. Nevertheless, the union calls on employers to respect the quarantine rules.

Employer organizations VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland want the quarantine rules to be relaxed, because many people would now be at home unnecessarily. Since Christmas a ten day quarantine is recommended when close contact has tested positive. The employers’ organizations want that guideline to be shortened to three days, after which someone can return to work after a negative test.
