Workers’ demands: The PM wants to be reassuring Workers’ demands: The PM wants to be reassuring

Libreville, Thursday, May 4, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – Responding to union demands on 1is last May, Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze made a set of promises regarding the grievances of the latter.

In a manifesto addressed to the government on the occasion of the 137e International Labor Day celebrated last Monday, Gabonese workers addressed a litany of grievances to the government relating to decent work, better wage treatment and respect for workers’ rights.

Reacting to the many demands, the Prime Minister, Head of Government has shown himself to be receptive and sensitive. Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze wanted to reassure everyone about the measures underway to recover the economy after the horrors of the coronavirus pandemic. According to him, the implementation of the recommendations of the National Assembly on the cost of living are the subject of a careful study with the Gabonese authorities. He also wanted to reassure the workers about President Ali Bongo Ondimba’s determination in favor of a decent working environment. “Your concerns are those of the government. It could not be otherwise,” he stressed.

However, the Prime Minister, head of government, above all deplored the failure of certain employers to respect workers’ rights. He confirmed the fact that unannounced field checks are in progress and that sanctions will be taken against the culprits. Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze invited employers, employees and trade unions to work in favor of a permanent, frank and sincere social dialogue in the interest of all.
