Work, training, dropping out of school: on the Aude scale, worrying markers

The departmental plan of solidarity adopted ten months ago also has the merit of recalling the serious issues that affect the age group concerned, whatever the territory, well beyond the limits of the priority districts of the city. .

With a litany of figures all more worrying than the others: nationally, in 2019, NEETs (neither in employement nor in education or training, in other words neither in employment, neither in studies, nor in training) represented 12, 9% of 15-29 year olds. A share which climbs to 29.3% in Aude, according to a study commissioned by the Occitanie Region.

A survey which, in the Aude, had highlighted the impact of a relatively low birth rate, but offset by a significant number of arrivals, of young people in particular: “Young people who arrive in Aude saying to themselves I have nothing, maybe I will have more elsewhere”, specifies Chloé Danillon. Hopes often disappointed.

Another indicator of the delicate social context for young people, the share of precarious contracts (temporary work, fixed-term contracts, assisted contracts), estimated in the department at 28% for 15-24 year olds in 2016, against 11% for those 25 and over. To complete the picture, there is an obvious problem of dropping out of school: in Aude, 94.17% of 15-17 year olds are in school compared to 65.3% of 18-19 year olds and 30.7% of 20-24 year olds. years ; far from the proportions respectively observed in Occitanie (96%, 78% and 50%) and in France (96.1%, 77.8%, and 49.4%).
