Woman Victim of Volcanic Eruption Takes Off Her Mask After 2 Years, Here’s Her Face

Family vacations have changed Stephanie Coral Browitt’s life forever. As a survivor of a natural disaster, he has to live with permanent burns on his face and body.

In 2019, Stephanie and her whole family went on vacation to New Zealand. He and his father and younger brother visited White Island, a cone volcano which is the most active in the country. While the mother chose to enjoy the beauty of nature on the boat.

Not long after, he heard someone shouting and telling people to run, just before the eruption occurred. During the incident, Stephanie felt like she was being tossed by a wave.

“Feels like a wave, takes your body to the middle of nowhere,” said Stephanie in an interview, as quoted from Brightside.

When the White Island volcano erupted, there were 47 people, including Stephanie and her father and sister, who were on the island. The incident killed 22 people while Stephanie and the survivors were evacuated by helicopter to be rushed to the hospital.

Unfortunately, her sister Krystal was not found and the father asked the rescue team to take Stephanie first. Although he was also successfully evacuated, Stephanie’s father died in hospital after several weeks of being treated.

Stephanie herself was in a coma for 2 weeks because she suffered 70% burns on her body, including her face. This Australian woman spent months in hospital undergoing various procedures and surgeries to heal her third degree burns.

After being released from the hospital, this 26-year-old woman still has to undergo routine treatment, including wearing a compression mask that covers most of her face. He also wore protective clothing on several parts of the body to help skin regeneration.

Stephanie shared her journey to recovery on social media and has succeeded in attracting the attention of TikTok and Instagram netizens. Her videos and photos moved the hearts of millions of netizens who prayed for her recovery.

Stephanie’s content does not only tell her sad story as a survivor of a volcanic eruption who has lost two family members at once. But he also sent positive messages and support for victims who suffered the same fate as him.

Now, after more than two years of covering her face with a compression mask, Stephanie can finally show her face to the public and cyberspace. For 30 months having to always wear a mask, he is ready to ‘open’ to his followers.

“I may never be completely satisfied (with my current appearance) because from the bottom of my heart I really miss my old face,” he said.

Stephanie’s stage for a complete recovery is still long. A series of medications and treatments must still be carried out and during that time he will continue to share his experiences with the world.
