Wolf once again spotted in Flanders

Two cyclists saw a wolf in Westerlo on Saturday, the organization “Welkom Wolf” said on Monday. It is probably the wolf that crossed the Albert Canal a few days ago.

The sighting was made on Saturday evening by two cyclists, who suddenly found themselves face to face with the wolf between Oevel and Tongerlo, two districts of Westerlo. Immediately after their sighting, they called the organization Welkom Wolf. “While I had them online, the wolf resurfaced. Never before has a sighting been reported live,” said Jan Loos of WelkomWolf.be.

According to Welkom Wolf, this is a serious observation, but not verifiable. “They were both convinced that it was not an ordinary dog. The animal was also clearly wild and unaccompanied,” says Jan Loos. “The wolf first calmly disappeared into the forest, but then two dogs began to bark aggressively, after which he ran away.”

At the end of March, a wolf had been seen in Antwerp Campine. Welkom Wolf said he was the first to ever cross the Albert Canal.
