Washington Wizards forward Kristaps Porziņgis will represent Latvia’s national men’s basketball team in the qualifying window for this summer’s Basketball World Cup in August. it was the news Reported already last June Lukas Katilius of Basketnews.com While we were thinking about the NBA draft.
Latvia is in Group A of the second qualifying round with Greece, Turkey, Belgium, Serbia and Great Britain (the team does not go by “UK”) with a 3-1 record, in first place with Greece.
In August next year, Latvia will play 25 matches against Turkey and 28 matches against Great Britain.
Latvia ranks 26th in the men’s basketball world ranking and could play with bigger weights if Porzingis and other NBA players, such as Dallas Mavericks forward Alan Davies Bertāns, developed harmony and consistently played for the national team as far as possible. Bertan played for his country June/July windowwhich included wins over Serbia and Slovakia to complete the first round of qualifying.
Unlike the other members of the World Cup selection group, Latvia will not enter the EuroBasket this year, so expect the rating to drop this fall.
