Rimouski cathedral was vandalized overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Following the acts of vandalism and theft perpetrated at Rimouski Cathedral on March 23 and which damaged the Casavant organ in particular, the public is invited to participate in a popular fundraiser that will help repair the damage caused by the or the vandal (s).

In the absence of insurance that can cover this mischief, the Fabrique Saint-Germain is obliged to ask for help from the population. The organization invites citizens to send checks to the following address:

  • Fabrique Saint-Germain, 11, rue Saint-Germain Ouest, Rimouski, Qc, G5L 4B4.

In the meantime, the investigation is ongoing. The church is still under seal pending the arrival of another team of specialists from the Sûreté du Québec in Quebec, authorized to climb to the heights in order to continue the investigation in the attic of the building.

For his part, the president of the Diocesan Regrouping for the Safeguarding of the Cathedral, Jacques Landry, recalls that the sitewww.cathedrale2016.com For four years now, on a secure site, has received financial contributions from its members and from the people who have registered for it.

“It is difficult at this time to assess the cost of the damage. We have thought in some cases to be able to make temporary repairs, more specifically for the zinc trumpets of the organ which have been damaged. They can be repaired manually, but that shouldn’t cause any other problems. The other breaks involved several internal doors that were fractured and broken vases. We leave the population free to donate a significant amount to cover the cost of these breakdowns, ”comments Jacques Landry.

By mail, donations can be sent to:

  • RDSCR, C.P. 25, Rimouski, Qc, G5L 7B7
