With a lion and a Cossack, but without an angel. The website of the Verkhovna Rada published the image of the large coat of arms of Ukraine

The list of state symbols is determined by Art. 20 of the Constitution of Ukraine. These include the flag, the anthem, and the large and small coat of arms. The small coat of arms – a golden trident on a blue background – was approved by the Verkhovna Rada in February 1992.

The Constitution states that the main element of the large state emblem is the sign of the princely state of Vladimir the Great (the small state emblem of Ukraine), but the emblem itself has not yet been approved.

On August 25, 2020, the Rada instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to hold a competition for the best sketch of the large state emblem of Ukraine.

On September 30, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a draft resolution about the competition. It reported that the best projects of the large state emblem will be awarded with prizes: UAH 100 thousand, UAH 50 thousand and UAH 30 thousand.

On November 19, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko said that the artist became the winner of the competition Alexey Kokhan, co-author of the small coat of arms. The third prize went to a team of authors: Ivan Turetsky, Lukyan Turetsky, Igor Globa, Dmitry Dubilet, Ivan Svarnik. It was decided not to award the second prize to anyone.

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Anton Drobovich said that the jury chose the best sketch of the large state emblem from what was presented by the authors. According to him, among the coats of arms “there was no nothing that stands next to perfection small state emblem “.

In order for the Verkhovna Rada to approve the sketch, at least 300 votes are needed.
