– There are quite a few storms with a lot of wind along the coastline this evening and throughout the night. We have sent out danger warnings for both gusts of wind and snow drifts during the day.

This is what meteorologist on duty, Espen Biseth Granan, at the Meteorological Institute says about the weather situation in the country.

– The main picture today, through the night and into Sunday is that there is low pressure that controls the weather.

The reason is that there is a low pressure outside the Baltic Sea and a high pressure outside Ireland.

– When these collide, it leads to a tight wind field between these pressures, which affects large parts of the Norwegian coast, explains Biseth Granan.

The result is that there are strong gusts of wind along the coast, and particularly in southern parts of the country.

Almost ended up at sea

Kjell Bua lives on Karmøy, and has been out in the storm on Saturday. He can tell about a car that just escaped the forces of the sea.

– It was a matter of seconds. Many strong waves hit the road. If it had been two seconds later, the car would have ended up in the sea. It’s not the first time I’ve seen it, says Bua to VG.

According to Bua, the storm picked up on Saturday afternoon.

– Now it’s at its worst. Most things blow around the ears here as a result of the wind, he says.

Danger warning for snow pike

The Meteorological Institute has also sent out a danger warning for snow drifts in the mountain areas of southern Norway and along the Finnmarksvidda.

– The weather is awful in quite a few places. There is a lot of rain and sleet along the coast, while in some inland areas it will fall as white precipitation.

Over Sunday, the wind will gradually decrease, and the storm will lighten.

In inland areas, especially in Eastern Norway, you can also be lucky with the weather on the last day of the week.

– Finer weather has been reported along the interior of Eastern Norway. Here the sun can peek out and the weather can be really nice, says Biseth Granan.
