WindTre, 5G and Times arrive. Also for Iliad customers?

Lots of news from WindTre regarding the network. News however that they also immediately involve Iliad customers that – as you know – they still mostly use WindTre antennas for territorial coverage. In these days a lot of news for the unitary network W3. But first, as always, we remind you how you can continue to follow us without missing our updates. Let’s keep in touch like this:

Now that we have reminded you of the ways to stay tuned to the network UpGo, let’s start with the first very important news

WindTre, the network passes to Cellnex

Mega deal for the Hutchison group which signs an agreement with Cellnex for the sale of transmission towers which actually concerns all European markets where there is a 3 brand operator. In Italy, it is obviously a matter of WindTre with the network that also serves customers of the Iliad manager, the fourth largest mobile operator in Italy.

Banner Iliad Offerta 50 Giga

In concrete terms, nothing changes for customers, of course. This is more than anything else a financial operation also finalized by Iliad itself for its own network. In fact, Cellnex becomes the major operator of the operators’ networks, therefore common to both WindTre and Iliad. The trend of outsource network management is now quite consolidated in the telco market.

News instead that impacts on customers is the arrival, finally, of 5G. Let’s see what it is.

WindTre, 5G finally arrives

5G is coming

5G that arrives on WindTre mobile phones (but also on Iliad ones?). The orange manager activates the first fifth generation stations which are therefore already usable by customers. But it does so, despite what was initially thought, in smaller cities, precisely to test the functioning of the network.

It is therefore an unofficial start that currently involves some cities including Avellino, Benevento, Perugia, Potenza, Verona and, we are told, some areas of Turin. Obviously we are waiting for the comments of WindTre customers with 5G smartphones who will eventually be able to confirm this news and report additional cities covered by this beta phase.

This is a really important news.

5G also for Iliad customers?

The interesting theme is also this: can users with Iliad sim connect to WindTre 5G in these areas? Will they be able to do it in the future? For the moment there is nothing official and we do not have reliable tests on this. Here too, if you have news and direct experiences, make yourself heard in the comments space below. It is not excluded that Iliad allows the use of 5G only on its native network, thus inhibiting the use of national roaming in ran sharing on this technology. We’ll see…

For the moment, however, on 5G Iliad in no hurry, with a debut set comfortably in 2021, when the market, even from the point of view of device available, it will be more mature.

Here comes the VOLTE

How much news today on the network front! The latest news is the VOLTE, finally officially available for WindTre customers. It is the possibility of making high quality calls directly on the 4G network without having to switch to 3G. The news will gradually be extended to all WindTre customers. Here too the question is: will Iliad customers also be able to use the volta on the WindTre network?

Even in the latter circumstance, we are also waiting for feedback from our community. Please let us know if you find traces of times on your smartphones.

That’s all for today. If you have lost them, here are the links to the latest and most interesting episodes of 4Fan.it:
