Wind farm shut down to rescue refugees

The windmills of wind farm Northwester 2 off the coast of Zeebrugge are shut down due to a rescue operation. Governor Carl Decaluwé reports this on Wednesday morning. 26 transmigrants have been adrift for two days and called the emergency services themselves.

A rescue operation is currently underway after a boat carrying 26 transmigrants ran into trouble off the coast of Zeebrugge near the Windmill Park. They called themselves because they had been adrift for two days and therefore did not get to Great Britain, confirms the governor of West Flanders, Carl Decaluwé.

On Wednesday morning, a search was immediately launched to find the boat. Ultimately, the boat could be located in the wind farm off the coast of Zeebrugge. In order to save the occupants, the windmills have to be shut down.

The condition of the passengers is currently unclear.
