Wimbledon: Federer eliminated in the quarterfinals

Roger Federer has won eight titles on Wimbledon’s turf and a total of 20 grand slam titles – the most ever with Rafael Nadal. But the question is whether there will be any more for the Swiss tennis legend, who turns 40 in August.

Federer, who has been plagued with major injury problems in recent years, received a travel pass on Wednesday night already in Wimbledon’s quarter final.

Against 18-ranked Pole Hubert Hurkacz, he fell in three straight sets, 3-6, 6-7, 0-6. The match was Hurkacz’s first grand slam quarterfinal ever.

– It was incredibly special to meet Roger here, it was a dream come true. He has so many incredible moments here, says Hurkacz.

According to the news agency AFP, it is the first time since 2002 that Federer loses a match at Wimbledon in three straight sets. It is also the first time he loses a set by 0-6 in the classic tournament.

A heavyweight that went better for each world setter Novak Djokovic who is now getting closer to breaking Rafael Nadal’s and Federer’s record of 20 grand slam titles in men’s tennis. Djokovic has a total of 19 grand slam titles and is now sniffing at another one.

Hungary’s first male quarter-finalist at Wimbledon since 1948, Marton Fucsovics, failed to stop the Serb. Djokovic won in three straight sets with 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

Now a semifinal awaits against the Canadian Denis Shapovalov for Djokovic.
