Willeke made a conscious choice to keep her goodbyes small, and to spend the day with the people she loved most. Hours before the concert started, her children Daniëlle, Johnny and Kaj had already come to the location. Willeke wanted to end her career in the presence of her offspring, grandchildren and brother Tony. With family, just as she started 65 years ago, singing with her father Willy Alberti at the time.

It may be a farewell to her theater life for Willeke, but she is not yet hanging up her microphone. On this evening, the singer received a check for several tens of thousands of euros from the Vriendenloterij for her Willeke Alberti Foundation. That allows her to perform in nursing homes with her band. Because that is what she wants to continue to do in the coming years. She therefore only sees the performance in the Concertgebouw as the farewell to her solo career in the form of theater tours. When fellow artists invite her to sing as a guest at their concert, she doesn’t say ‘no’ to it. Individual performances in the country are also welcome. For example, it was announced last week that Willeke is one of the main guests at the opening of the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam. ‘I really want to reminisce with my band and for my loyal audience in Amsterdam on the Museumplein. Singing together, laughing together and having fun together; that’s what everyone wants.’
