Will WhatsApp messages be able to ‘self-destruct’ in 24 hours?

Some users of messaging applications prefer to use Snapchat or Telegram so that their conversations are not saved in the chats, so WhatsApp has decided not to be left behind in the ‘self-destruction’ of messages.

Now, the WABetaInfo portal, specialized in news about this platform, has ensured that “WhatsApp is testing the ability to set messages to disappear after 24 hours ”.

It should be remembered that, since last November, the social network already has the function of eliminating temporary messages that, once configured, allows them to disappear after seven days. Nevertheless, Everything seems to indicate that they want to reduce that time.

How to activate temporary messages in WhatsApp?

  • Open the WhatsApp chat with which you want to apply this function
  • In the contact or group name, look for ‘temporary messages’
  • If this is the first time you do it, you must click ‘continue’ in the information box that appears
  • Select ‘activated’

Important data:

  • It does not apply to messages sent or received before activation.
  • In an individual chat, any of the users can activate or deactivate temporary messages, while in group chats only those who manage them can do it.
  • When you reply to a message quoting the temporary, the quoted text may remain in the chat after seven days.
  • If a temporary message is forwarded to a chat with temporary messages turned off, the message will not disappear from that chat.
  • If a user creates a backup before a message disappears, the message will be included in the backup. Temporary messages will only be removed when a user restores from a backup.

And the multimedia files?

By default, the multimedia files received on WhatsApp are automatically downloaded to the photo gallery of the mobile device.

If temporary messages are activated, the multimedia files sent in that chat will disappear, but will be saved on the phone if automatic download is activated.

To disable automatic download on WhatsApp, you can go to settings> Storage & data.
