Will Smith’s ban and his resignation from The Academy came after the actor slapped the comedian Chris Rock on the stage of the 94th Academy Awards.

During the event, as Rock walked on stage to present the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, referring to her bald head and comparing it to Demi Moore’s GI Jane.

Pinkett Smith himself is known to suffer from alopecia and has discussed it publicly.

It should be noted that The Academy’s penalty was to ban Smith from attending AMPAS events, including the Oscars, for ten years.

Usually the winner of the previous year’s Best Actor/Actress will announce the award for next year.
