Will Samsung rename its Exynos chips? – Phone guru news

Thanks to the proliferation of social media platforms, it’s hard to stand out as a tipster these days. One tipster, Digital Chat Station, became known for correctly stating that Qualcomm will change the name of its flagship application processor (AP) from the expected Snapdragon 898 to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in 2021. Sure, it sounded funny, but he was right. Now comes a tipster with an even more surprising post about a new name that Samsung is reportedly preparing for its Exynos family of chips.

According to OreXda’s tweet on “X”, Samsung apparently wants to rename its Exynos chips as “Dream Chips”. While it might not deserve it, the Exynos name doesn’t have a great reputation compared to its rivals, thanks to complaints of overheating, battery drain, stuttering videos, and more. A new name could give Samsung a fresh start in the industry.

In order to catch up with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Galaxy AP, Samsung designed the Exynos 2400 SoC with 10 CPU cores, although it still failed to beat the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s Geekbench benchmark score.

According to the latest rumors, Samsung plans to equip the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 and Samsung Galaxy S24+ flagships with Exynos 2400 AP in most markets. In the US and China, these two phones will be powered by the Galaxy Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Current speculation is that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature the Galaxy Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all markets.

The tipster says that Samsung will name not only its flagship chips, but all of its Exynos chips as the “Dream Chip”. The rebranding could happen sometime in 2024, and while the new name is rumored to convey a lot of confidence that Samsung hasn’t earned in the chip industry, that’s perhaps the main reason why this rumor seems so far-fetched.
