Will Ray Curry face a worker?

The following text is an email that UAW presidential candidate and Mack Trucks worker Will Lehman of Macungie, Pennsylvania, sent to all UAW members last Thursday. Tuesday published Lehman posted a video urging UAW President Ray Curry to race against him at the Candidate Forum on September 22. The UAW is not advertising the debate because it does not want workers to watch the show. So far, Curry hasn’t publicly stated whether or not he will participate in the debate.

Hello colleagues,

I’m Will Lehman, a worker of yours, candidate for the presidency of the UAW. In a week from today, September 22, at 6:00 pm Eastern time, he will be participating in a debate on a UAW presidential candidate who is unique in that he was ordained by the court-appointed overseer.

UAW President Ray Curry has not yet confirmed whether or not he will attend. Will the head of the UAW bureaucratic machine accept the challenge of a humble worker?

The UAW apparatus is hiding the debate from union members. Many workers are not even aware that a debate is underway because the UAW makes no attempt to inform members. The UAW website does not feature the debate in the foreground, while Ray Curry regularly posts self-promoting public relations statements there.

The UAW has 400,000 active members and 600,000 retired members, and these workers have a democratic right to a full discussion of the burning issues they face.

We are seeing inflation approaching 10 percent, devouring our wages and devouring our savings. This is the result of the collective agreements that the UAW has imposed on us; he is at the side of the company councils that exploit us. We want to fight these companies together, but the UAW divides us into different groups to play against each other. Our retirees – the work veterans – have to live on a fixed income. Covid-19 is still spreading in the workplace, putting everyone at risk.

Several UAW leaders have been convicted of taking bribes from the company, but the collusion with the companies continues happily. UAW leaders are social fanatics who thrive on our contributions. They accumulate more than $ 1 billion in assets and employ 450 people, all of whom earn more than $ 100,000 a year. And that same leadership claims that they cannot pay us all the strike pay.

We need to discuss these issues and develop a strategy to reverse decades of wage cuts. We need to fight for what workers need, not what companies say they can afford.

My campaign aims to build a mass movement among ordinary workers to break the dictatorship of the UAW apparatus and restore power to the workers. Empowering workers is giving us a voice.
