This is what group leader for the Liberal Party in Rælingen, Stephen Meinich-Bache, tells Dagbladet.
Aps no to a decriminalization has meant that the government will not get a majority in the Storting for its reform.
The drug reform was one of the Liberal Party’s major victories in the government negotiations and the fact that it is now heading towards a rejection of this in the Storting, is hard on several.
Meinich-Bache is now asking his own party colleagues and the government to ask cabinet questions.

– Now it’s time to show what we stand for and what we believe in. Now is the time to be principled, says the Liberal politician.
– The reform should be so important to us, with the initiative we in the Liberal Party have taken in this matter.
A few hours after the Labor Party handed down its verdict in the case, Meinich-Bache has already communicated his view to the Liberal Party’s own channels.

– I have probably received 40-50 feedback from party colleagues who support this and here there are several key municipal politicians.
Cabinet questions are a means of pressure a government can use against the Storting, where they say they will resign if they do not get a majority. This is not binding.
– Do you think there is a chance to get the party leadership in the Liberal Party and the government on this?

On Friday night, Dagbladet asked Liberal Party leader Guri Melby how she views the possibility of asking cabinet questions, but has not yet received an answer.
To Dagbladet, Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie opened earlier tonight to enter into negotiations on the drug reform with the Labor Party.
– Now we have to sit down in peace and get an overview of what the Labor Party thinks. They have decriminalization as one of their bullet points, so now we have to see what is possible to achieve, Høie said.

Denies election strategy
When asked by Dagbladet whether this proposal can easily appear as little more than an election campaign strategy a few months before the Storting election, Meinich-Bache says the following:
– This is not an election strategic decision, but a matter of principle that is more important than thinking strategy. The consequences are great, regardless of the outcome. It is a signal, both to the government and to those in power in the Storting. The weight has changed since the FRP left the government, but that makes politicians responsible.
Emotions are not facts
– Sometimes we as politicians have to show what we stand for and what we believe in. I think we can proudly agree on the drug reform. Then we have shown a force towards the weakest in society. To show that one sometimes puts positions at stake, I think is an important and correct thing to show to political Norway and to the voters, says the Liberal politician and adds:
– It has been a long time since such a clear question as this has been asked in the Storting, so it would be an important position.
