General Chair of the PDI Perjuangan Megawati Soekarnoputri planned to meet with the General Chair of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto lately. Will the meeting materialize at this moment? Eid Al-Fitr 2024?
Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan DPP, Ahmad Basarah, admitted that he had not received information that Prabowo and Megawati would meet during Eid al-Fitr. However, he considered, if the meeting did take place, it would only be limited to friendship.
“I haven’t received any definite information about this. But once again, even if the meeting is held, of course the spirit that Ms. Mega wants to show is that personally, once again, Ms. Mega’s relationship with Mr. Prabowo is very good, never had there is a problem,” said Basarah to journalists in Lenteng Agung, Wednesday (10/4/2024).
Basarah explained how the good relationship between Megawati and Prabowo had been built for a long time. Long before becoming a presidential and vice presidential candidate in 2009, Megawati is said to have helped Prabowo when he was in Jordan.
“The Taufiq Kiemas family and Mrs. Megawati facilitated Pak Prabowo’s return to Indonesia and their relationship continues to be good until now,” he said.
He also emphasized that he should not mix personal relationships with state affairs. As is known, currently both parties are competing in the 2024 General Election.
“But once again, let’s not confuse good personal relationships with the state context. I think Bung Karno also taught that, Indonesian politics must also teach human sides like that. Let’s wait for the best time for Ms. Mega and Mr. Prabowo to be able to meet,” he explained.
