Paris Saint-Germain superstars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are reportedly waiting for Barcelona star Frankie de Jong. Various international sports media report that Messi and Mbappe want to play with De Jong.
De Jong is a crucial influence in the Catalan formation in the role of midfielder. The youngster, who is securing his place in the team’s starting XI, has already scored two goals and one assist in 18 games played.
According to a report by the French outlet Le Parisien, Mbappe has asked PSG to sign Frankie de Jong.
A report from Sport Mediaset claims that Messi also wants to hit the ball once again with his former teammate in Barcelona.
But it is unclear whether PSG will make a move for De Jong as he has no interest in leaving the club.
“I feel that I will play here for a long time. I don’t pay attention to the rumors. There hasn’t been any such discussion on the part of the club yet.
I don’t think I will leave Barça, I don’t expect it. But I will be very disappointed if that happens,” he said in the Prime FC Barcelona documentary.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already declared that De Jong will not be sold.
“As for De Jong, I agree that many clubs tried to sign him last summer, but now he can’t be let go.
De Jong is an excellent footballer. And we know it. I assure you that we are not ready to sell it. That can be discussed in internal meetings, but above all it is a decision of the club’, said Laporta.
De Jong joined Barça from Ajax in 2019. Barcelona brought the young player to the team for 75 million euros. After joining the team, the player scored 15 goals and 19 assists in 158 games. De Jong was instrumental in Barcelona winning the Copa del Rey in 2020-21 under Messi’s guidance.
