Wienerwald region – Quo Vadis SPÖ: “The situation is extremely precarious”

The Neulengbacher JG chair generally welcomes the instrument of a member survey, but does not consider the timing to be optimal. “The most natural thing of a party is its members, and their opinion is extremely important for a target group-oriented policy,” says Julia Amplatz. A strong opposition policy and a focus on important upcoming elections are currently needed. “In this situation, tying the whole party to an internal debate may be a little unfortunate. In my opinion, the time for a member survey is therefore not the right one. ”But decisions by the party must be accepted and not discussed in public.

“The most authentic of a party are its members, and their opinion is extremely important for a target group-oriented policy”

It is natural for Julia Amplatz to take part in a member survey as an SP member. The Neulengbach SP group will participate in the survey in a closed manner. Amplatz does not want to say whether she will support the party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner. Each member should form their own opinion and make the decision independently. Julia Amplatz says that Pamela Rendi-Wagner should be given a great deal of respect. However, she regrets that the member survey contains very general questions. “The internal decision-making position is already in place on most issues. Unfortunately, this survey is not about a realignment of content, we find that a shame as a young team. Still, it’s a first step in getting our members involved and that’s important. ”

Wolfgang Luftensteiner, former SPÖ mayor in Altlengbach, will also take part in the survey, although he has doubts that it is a good idea. He considers the situation within the party to be extremely difficult. “The situation was no longer so precarious. The voters lost credibility. Many issues have not been addressed and there was no clear position on the issue of migration. The cart got lost, ”says Luftensteiner, who demands a restart. “It will be a long way and will not happen overnight, but we have to regain the credibility of the population,” said Luftensteiner. He will not support the current party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner.

Luftensteiner does not support chairpersons

Rendi-Wagner is a competent health politician for him, but not in the right place as party leader. “A complete fresh start is necessary here. You have to have the courage to make a cut, ”Luftensteiner is convinced.

In any case, many officials in the district want to take part in the vote. As the district party chairman and St. Pölten mayor Matthias Stadler emphasized, participation and voting behavior are personal decisions: “The members do not want to be patronized and are competent enough to make their own decisions,” he says.
