Why the Warriors might start a trade with Orlando

Looking for a ring for next season, the Warriors will look to strengthen themselves this summer. Future talks may well lead the front office to Florida and the Magic.

According to the records of the 30 NBA franchises, the Warriors are the worst team in the league this season. Even if the departure of Kevin Durant necessarily hurt, we can’t say that the Dubs were lucky in terms of injuries. Still, there is something positive in this slump: a future big draft pick.

We told you, but with the worst record in the league, Golden State has the best chance of having the first choice with two other franchises. She will not be able to come out of the top 5 no matter what, at least if the ranking does not budge.

What to do with it? Draft a young player with potential or trade this choice to acquire a good player? The leaders would already have established their tactics and it promises to be interesting. Bleacher Report, via Zach Buckley, imagines in any case an entirely different scenario for the Dubs: a trade with the Magic concerning Aaron Gordon.

For those who don’t know, the idea is far from crazy. Last February, Sean Deveney reported that three franchises had discussed with Orlando to welcome Gordon. Among her? Yeah, the Warriors, easy. But how to set up such an exchange?

The Californian franchise should obligatorily welcome another player via the exception acquired (more than 17 million) in the trade of Andre Iguodala to recover Gordon. This player, still unknown, would allow the exchange to work at the level of wages. We add a high draft pick for 2020, and voila.

A bit expensive to get Gordon back? Without a doubt. This is why Orlando should send his own first round of drafting to satisfy the opposing party.

The Magic’s number “00” is 14.4 points and 7.6 rebounds on average this season. Defensive problems, but a player capable of bringing offensively and who would be a good fit with the rest of the roster. If the Warriors want to win, then Gordon’s immediate contribution would be good.

Lots of assumptions around this trade obviously, but the Warriors will not say no to the contribution of a confirmed player to bounce back next season. Aaron Gordon’s idea is on the table, to be continued.
