Since being used in the 2019 Honda Genio, the eSAF (enhanced Smart Architecture Frame) frame has become a common platform which is then used in other Honda scooter models, including the Vario 160. But this eSAF frame is not used in the PCX 160 and ADV 160 models, why is that? ?
For information, there are five models of Honda scooters that use the eSAF frame, starting with the Genio in 2019, BeAT and BeAT Street from 2020, Scoopy from 2020, and also the Vario 160 from 2022. The eSAF frame is a new frame developed by Honda. The eSAF frame is different from the type of steel pipe (tube) frame.
The eSAF frame is an upgraded version of the conventional underbone frame. eSAF is claimed to have a number of advantages because it uses steel plates that are pressed and welded using laser welding. One of the advantages is to make the use of fuel more efficient.

In addition, the use of eSAF also makes more space in the fuel tank and trunk. The Honda BeAT, for example, has a 12 liter trunk with a 4.2 liter fuel tank. Not only that, the eSAF frame is also claimed to make the motorbike more reliable when maneuvering.
While the Vario 160 uses the eSAF frame, two other Honda scooters that use the same engine, namely the PCX 160 and ADV 160, do not use the eSAF frame. The PCX 160 and ADV 160 models still use an iron pipe frame with a double cradle architecture.
According to AHM Corporate Communications General Manager Ahmad Muhibbuddin, determining the type of frame for a certain model scooter takes into account the needs of consumers in its segment.
“Why don’t PCX and ADV use eSAF? Yes, because we develop each product by taking into account the characteristics and needs of the consumers themselves. The development of a product begins with research according to consumer needs, so we differentiate each motorcycle according to their needs and also What kind of consumer (character) are they,” said Muhib at the Astra Honda Motor Safety Riding Park & Training Center, Cikarang, Bekasi, Wednesday (23/8/2023).
