Excelsior is often seen as a stepping stone for players and trainers. “You would think so. We have been promoted, we have maintained our position and we are playing football very well, but I have not been called by anyone at all in the past two and a half years,” Dijkuizen expresses his surprise in conversation with Football International. “A hundred names are mentioned at clubs looking for a trainer, but I don’t get a call. That’s quite special.”

Dijkhuizen emphasizes that he is having a good time at Excelsior, but he is surprised. “Maybe it bothers me that I am seen as a coach who only does well at Excelsior. But as trainers we have all been fired at some point, right? I am not that outspoken, not that colorful, maybe that plays a role. I think they like it. I honestly have no idea. Maybe you know?”

Where Dijkhuizen’s future lies will soon become clear. His contract in Kralingen expires. “It will become clear before January 1. I find it difficult, I am doing well here. We are in discussions, with the intention of both sides to reach an agreement, that is what they call it. I can now leave through the front door. but I can still work here well in the coming years.”
