“If I can sit here with a mustache and a suit, then I’m just happy,” Elmer answers when asked by presenter Philip Freriks why she wears the mustache. “I just like that. I feel so free. I just like doing it.”
“It also looks very good, your mustache”, is a compliment from Philip. “Thank you,” Elmer replies.
And why does Merel prefer to appear as her alter ego Elmer in The smartest person? “Because I’ve been rapping for a year and a half and I’m so incredibly proud of what I’m doing with it,” she says.
Incidentally, actor George van Houts is Elmer’s father. George previously participated in the popular NPO knowledge quiz. He had some advice for the actress. “Sometimes you just don’t know.”
