Why does the moon sometimes appear in broad daylight?

Sometimes we observe that during the day the sun is on one side and the moon on the other. Why does this happen?

Although the moon has no light of its own, in some positions it receives so much sunlight that it can be seen not only at night. The phenomenon is known as “moon by day”. This is part of its natural cycle of rotation and translation.

“The full moon is only seen at night, the new moon is not seen, the growing room is seen at sunset and at night and the dwindling room at sunrise and morning,” summarizes RTVE.es Antonio Pérez Verde, astronomer of the REDA (Spanish Network for the Dissemination of Astronomy).

He said that from the perspective of someone who is on earth, the moon separates from the sun hiding behind the horizon every day later than the sun, and so it can also be seen in the afternoon and evening.

According to the lunar calendar for this year there will be two supermoon, on March 9 and April 8. It is called this way because they are the dates when the moon is closest to Earth during the year.

It looks seemingly brighter and enlarged up to 14%.
