Why does the media support Palestine? A TBS program featuring the daughter of a terrorist ignores the history of Jewish persecution. Hamas attacks are the second Holocaust.

Regarding the military conflict between Israel and Hamas, a BS-TBS program drew criticism for featuring Mei Shigenobu, the daughter of former Japanese Red Army leader Fusako Shigenobu. Yoichi Masuzoe, an international political scientist, says, “The issue of Israel and Palestine cannot be understood without considering the history of discrimination and persecution against Jews. The Japanese media may not be familiar with this background.”

Netanyahu government aims to eliminate Hamas

On October 7, the Islamic organization Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel from Gaza. In response, Israel’s Netanyahu government has launched retaliatory attacks, vowing to fight until the destruction of Hamas.

The Japanese media also reported on this incident, and some of the reports were so shocking that it made us want to shake our heads. In particular, when BS-TBS’s “Hoso 1930” featured Mei Shigenobu, the daughter of former Japanese Red Army leader Fusako Shigenobu, on October 11, there was a lot of criticism online.

The Japanese media may not be familiar with the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue.

This war has a background of history, religion, and racism, but I feel that the Japanese media lacks knowledge and interest in such issues.

Looking back at the history of the Jewish diaspora, pogroms, and Holocaust over 2,000 years, and four wars with Arabs since the founding of the country, it is easy to understand why Netanyahu’s government will not stop its attacks until it annihilates Hamas.

This is because Hamas views this attack as a “second holocaust.”

Jews were not treated as human beings

I moved to France 50 years ago, and then continued my research life in Switzerland and Germany, but my research focus was on the period when Hitler ruled Europe, so I was interested in the question of why Jews were oppressed by the Nazis. There was a strong interest in

Fifty years ago in Europe, we experienced deep-rooted discrimination against Jews in our daily lives, and unfortunately, this discrimination continues in Europe today.

In European societies where Christianity spread, Christians looked down on Jews. Since the Middle Ages, Jews have been subject to discrimination and persecution, and the jobs they can pursue have been limited.

To put it in an extreme, they were not treated as human beings. As a result, Jews established a strong religious and racial identity.
