Turns out Ronaldo’s painted nails aren’t for fashion, they have a better reason. Bild claims that Ronaldo is doing it for hygiene reasons:
“Many top athletes make it a priority to protect their nails from fungi and bacteria when spending hours in sweaty shoes.”
UFC fighters also paint their toenails – ostensibly to prevent their nails from breaking or chipping during fights. When a layer of varnish is applied, the toenails become harder, reducing the risk of damaging them during combat.
