Germany’s U-21 squad won its semifinal match against The Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday and played some of the cleanest football you will ever see.
Bayer Leverkusen phenom Florian Wirtz, who many thought should have gotten a senior-team call-up for the Euros, scored goals in the 1st minute and 8th minute respectively to give the Germany national team an early — and insurmountable — lead:
Perr Schuurs scored for The Netherlands in the 67th minute, but Germany would hold on to secure the victory. The young Germans will now move on to the final to take on Portugal’s U-21 squad.
What excited most fans of the German side was how creative they were at times and how they took chance to move forward. The movement, passing, and imaginative style of play left German fans looking at the senior team and wondering….why not us?
Anyway, Bayern Munich center-back Lars Lukas Mai did not get the call to play in this one as he stayed on the bench for the game’s entirety, but former Bayern prospect Niklas Dorsch had a stellar game in the midfield.
Dorsch, who plays his club ball for Gent, payed all 90 minutes, completed 94% of his passes, had one key pass, completed four of five long balls, was successful in his only dribble attempt, and had two interceptions.
Clearly, Dorsch benefitted from his move away from Bayern Munich.
