“Why Antonio Conte was Right about Tottenham Hotspur’s Poor Performance”

Tottenham Hotspur conceded five goals in 21 minutes when they were beaten 6-1 by Newcastle United in the Premier League. The fighting spirit of Harry Kane et al in the match was questioned, until the public remembered the words of their former coach, Antonio Conte.

Still fresh in memory when Antonio Conte was angry at a press conference after Tottenham were held to a 3-3 draw at Southampton even though he had led 3-1 earlier. It was the Italian man’s last game as Spurs coach.

Four games have passed since Conte left, but Tottenham have not improved. Cristian Stellini’s team only won one victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, the rest were held to a draw by Everton, bent by Bournemouth, and recently brushed by Newcastle.

Tottenham’s poor performance when crushed by Newcastle made the former England national team player in 1999-2007, Kieron Dyer, think that Conte’s words were true, not just looking for excuses. Spurs are considered to play without passion.

“I couldn’t believe it. I thought Newcastle would win the game, but being 5-0 after 21 minutes was incredible,” Dyer said, quoted by Sky Sports.

“Many discussed Conte when he exploded in public speaking, but this is why he did it. Everything he said turned out to be true,” explained Dyer.
