The exchange rate of the United States dollar (US) against the rupiah is still high. The rupiah is getting sluggish after almost touching Rp. 15,000. This morning, the US dollar reached Rp. 14,992. The strengthening of the US dollar will also have an impact on the automotive industry. Car prices can go up!

As reported by detikFinance, from RTI data, Uncle Sam’s currency was at the highest level at Rp. 15,000 and the lowest at Rp. 14,974. The US dollar strengthened against the rupiah on a daily to monthly basis.

“Of course there is an effect on costs. But we have to monitor what the trend is. Including inflation figures, material prices and others,” said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor Anton Jimmi Suwandy to detikcom, Friday (15/7/2022). ).

Anton said that his party continues to monitor the condition of the US dollar exchange rate against the rupiah. He assessed, there is a possibility that the price of cars will rise again due to the influence of the US dollar, although as of July 1, 2022, Toyota has only raised the price of its cars.

“In July there has just been a price increase. Currently, we are still monitoring it, but the possibility of another price increase is still there,” said Anton.

“We will see the trend, whether it will change drastically or not,” he said.

Confirmed separately, Business Innovation and Sales & Marketing Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor Yusak Billy said that the US dollar exchange rate was indeed one of the factors in determining car prices. However, said Billy, Honda is trying to reduce the cost increase so that the price of its car does not soar.

“There are many factors that affect the price adjustment. The foreign currency exchange rate is one of them. Other factors such as inflation and the very high increase in production costs (increase in raw materials, logistics costs, etc.) can also cause price increases. However, we always try to reduce the increase in costs by various efficiencies in all lines and increase work productivity,” said Billy to detikcom, Friday (15/7/2022).
