WHO resumes approval of Sputnik V vaccine

The World Health Organization (WHO) has resumed the process of approving the Russian Covid-19 vaccine “Sputnik V”, according to information in the organization’s register.

The official Twitter account of Sputnik V states that the vaccine approval process “is on schedule and entering the final phase”. A team of WHO inspectors will soon visit Russia and conduct a new inspection.

The WHO Sputnik V approval process was suspended in mid-September.

In the WHO emergency vaccine procedure, the manufacturer must demonstrate that the companies producing the vaccines meet the standards.

In June, the WHO commission found violations at the Farmfaart-UfaVITA plant in Ufa, one of the Russian companies producing Sputnik V.

The experts were criticized in particular by the control of antiseptic conditions in the vaccine filling lines.

Vaccines currently manufactured by the US companies Moderna and Pfizer (the latter together with German BioNTech), European Jannsen and AstraZeneca, Chinese Sinopharm and Sinovac, and Indian vaccines are currently approved by the WHO for emergency use. Serum Institute of India ”.
