WHO Asks Brazil to Take Action to Corona Transmission

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that Brazil was “hit” by positive cases of streaking corona. WHO urges Brazil to take serious steps to reduce transmission rates immediately.

“The increase in Brazil is no longer exponential, it has increased,” WHO WHO Emergency Health Chairman Michael Ryan was quoted as saying on Saturday (7/18).

Brazil is the second worst-affected corona virus in the world after the United States. Brazil recorded nearly 77,000 deaths and more than two million cases.

Figures published by the Ministry of Health show there are more than 45,000 new cases over 24 hours and 1,300 additional deaths.

But Ryan said the infection rate was now stable. He points out that the reproduction rate for the virus, is quite high in April and May.

That is, every infected person re-infects at least two other people. But now the number has dropped in the sense of not doubling itself as fast as before.

Ryan stressed that while there was no guarantee that (transmission) would go down by itself. But he pointed out that there was an opportunity for Brazil to suppress the disease, to suppress transmission of the virus.

He urged Brazil to take control and take joint actions that are ongoing so that the transmission of the virus can be suppressed.

“Until now, in many countries, including Brazil, viruses have been responsible, viruses have established rules,” he said.

Since the beginning of the crisis, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has rejected the seriousness of facing the epidemic and criticized the detention measures ordered by the governor in the Brazilian state.

The right-wing leader himself was stated positive co-19 and is currently in quarantine.
