Latvian residents are more negative than positive towards LGBT+ representatives. For example, the 2020 research center SKDS asked respondents to express their attitudes towards homosexual people and relationships. Only 27% do not condemn either homosexuals or homosexual relations.

In many ways, this attitude of the population materializes in other areas as well. This is evidenced by the annual report of the authoritative organization “Rainbow Europe”, which assesses the LGBT+ situation in Europe in seven categories (equality and non-discrimination, protection of family rights, hate crimes and incitement to hatred, legal gender recognition, inviolability of the human body, civil society and treatment of asylum seekers). . This year Latvia got only 22%, occupying 36 out of 49 places. And although it managed to climb five places in the last 12 months, it still remains among the anti-leaders of the EU ranking – Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.
