White House: 10% of children have been vaccinated in 2 weeks

About 10% of eligible children ages 5 to 11 in the United States have received a dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine since it was approved for use for that age group two weeks ago, the White House reported.

At least 2.6 million children have received a dose, said the White House coordinator for COVID-19 Jeff Zients, adding that just last week 1.7 million doses were administered, about double the number in the past week. first week after approval.

That’s more than three times faster than the rate adults were vaccinated at the start of the national vaccination campaign 11 months ago.

Zients said there are now 30,000 locations for children to get vaccinated, up from 20,000 last week, and the government expects the pace of pediatric inoculations to pick up in the coming days.

Children who receive the first dose by the end of this week will be fully vaccinated by Christmas, as long as they receive the second in three weeks.
