This is the date on which all French people are suspended. May 11, announced day of deconfinement by Emmanuel Macron Monday evening, if ever the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic allows it.
If it is well respected and the confinement does not experience an impromptu extension, this date will therefore mark the return of the French outside their home. It could also cause the reopening of certain businesses, while the majority have been closed since March 14. Only essential stores, such as supermarkets, food stores or pharmacies (among others) remained open.
But what exactly would reopen? Emmanuel Macron, in his televised address on Monday evening, has already warned that cafes, bars and restaurants will not be part of the number. All places bringing together the public are concerned. Cinemas, theaters, performance halls, hotels and museums will also remain closed on May 11.
On the other hand, other businesses should be able to resume their activity as quickly as possible. The government’s goal is ” expand the reopening of all stores beyond food “, Assures Christophe Castaner, the Minister of the Interior Tuesday morning on France Inter.
In fact, hairdressers, florists and other businesses should therefore be able to open their doors. Social distancing measures at checkouts, and limiting the number of customers inside stores should be put in place.
Garden centers have already been authorized to reopen since the start of the week. While the months of March, April and May represent nearly 50% of their turnover and collecting fruit and vegetables from the garden allows some families to save money (up to the equivalent of a minimum wage for some), the government has authorized their early reopening, even though only the sale of seeds and seeds to prepare crops and plants is authorized, and the number of people inside the same store is of course limited.
