In the month of April, a municipality on the edge of the Veluwe stands out: Heerde. The number of corona cases at the time was 72.6 cases per 10,000 inhabitants. Dozens of residents died from the virus, even more people fell ill.
The municipality is currently doing better: the number of corona cases per 10,000 inhabitants is 1.07. Yet one memorial meeting for the corona victims which was scheduled for next Saturday canceled. After Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s press conference earlier this week, the organization finds the meeting unjustified.

Bergen op Zoom also stands out, with 30.9 corona cases per 10,000 inhabitants. “The numbers are hefty given the national average,” Mayor Frank Petter said at a news conference last week. According to the mayor, Bergen op Zoom as a border town has to deal with many day trippers from Belgium who come to shop. Also explained the mayor in the press conference a link with the Feast of Sacrifice, because half of the infections in Bergen op Zoom could be attributed to people from the Moroccan community.
Unlike in the south of the country, hardly any corona was detected in the north. Until a cluster was created in Dokkum in the municipality of Northeast Friesland at the beginning of this month. In the municipality there are now 11.2 cases of corona per 10,000 inhabitants, while Northeast Friesland had 1.3 cases per 10,000 inhabitants in March. According to the GGD Fryslân, the outbreak originated at a garden party, where a visitor infected fourteen people.
