Where is Alexei Navalny? Fears Mount as Russian Opposition Leader Goes Missing

“For the sixth day now, we don’t know where Alexey is and what’s going on with him.”

This was stated by Alexei Navalny’s spokesperson Kira Yarmish in a publication in Kh.

Her comments come after the Russian opposition leader once again failed to attend a court hearing via video conference, heightening the fears of his relatives.

The court in the city of Kovrov, located about 260 kilometers northeast of Moscow, was due to hear a complaint filed by Navalny against the prison management where the opposition leader is serving a 19-year sentence. Since Thursday, he has been unable to participate in court hearings via video link, as is the usual practice.

The prison administration gave the absurd explanation that this was due to problems with the electricity supply. Last week, a spokesman for the detention center told reporters that “the problems will be fixed as soon as possible.”

There is no connection with Alexei Navalny, they fear for his health

Since Wednesday, however, the prison authorities have not allowed Navalny’s lawyers to meet with him.

This, together with the information spread by Yarmish that two weeks ago the 47-year-old dissident fell ill in his cell, increases the fears about Navalny.
