Significant Updates on State Primary and Republican Caucus

Polls Close and Vote Reporting

Polls for the state’s primary will conclude at 10 p.m. Eastern time, corresponding to 7 p.m. local time across the majority of the state. Following the closure of polls, officials are expecting the first vote reports to be available by approximately 11:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Republican Caucus to Follow

Aside from the state-run presidential primary on Tuesday, official plans have been confirmed for a Republican presidential caucus to be held on Thursday. Importantly, voters are permitted to participate in both the primary and the caucus. However, candidates were required to make a choice in the competition. Notably, former President Donald J. Trump will be participating in the caucus, influencing the determination of delegates for each candidate. During Tuesday’s primary, voters were granted the option to select “None of these candidates” in case their preferred choice was not listed.

Registration and Voting Information

To be eligible to vote in the primary, voters are required to be registered with a party. Independent voters have the option to participate in the primary if they choose a party affiliation at the polls. Notably, an official ballot was sent to all registered voters, which they could return by mail. Additionally, a week of in-person early voting was provided. It’s worth mentioning that the Republican primary has already witnessed a substantial voter turnout, with approximately 58,000 ballots cast as of Monday.
