There is new evidence that being underweight leads to brain damage. The brain seems to recover by increasing it.

Anorexics often seem unfocused and absent to therapists, and they take a long time to answer. If you are very underweight, psychotherapy is hardly possible. It has been known from studies for many years that anorexia can impair brain function.
