When a beggar dies and leaves Rp. 17 billion for his family…

SOHAG, KOMPAS.com – One beggar from Egypt died and bestowed Rp 17 billion for his family.

This event took place in Sohag, southern Egypt, in June 2021.

Quoted from Gulf News (27/6/2021), the beggar’s family was surprised to find out he was a billionaire, because he always claimed to be poor and bankrupt.

The beggar’s family said they found out about the 22 million Egyptian pound (Rp 17.2 billion) money after receiving a letter from the postman one month after the man’s death.

“One day after my father’s death, a postman knocked on our door questioning my father. I told him he died a month ago,” said the beggar’s son.

“Then he gave me a letter from a local bank. At first, we thought our father was taking a loan. However, we didn’t believe it when we opened the letter.”

“My father kept 22 million Egyptian pounds in the bank. I fell unconscious and was taken to the hospital,” he continued.

Beggar millionaire in Mecca

An Asian female beggar collected about 117,000 Saudi riyals (Rp 448 million), in addition to some foreign currency and gold jewellery.

Quoted from Saudi Gazette (5/4/2022), security forces have arrested a total of 3,719 beggars from various parts of the Kingdom during the week, from 22 to 30 March 2022.

Prosecutors are currently investigating the cases against each of the arrested beggars, including a man and a woman.

Public security authorities emphasize that begging in all its forms and manifestations is prohibited.

They also urged the public to report beggars or anything that supports beggars in any way via telephone numbers 911 in the Mecca and Riyadh regions, and 999 in all other areas of the Kingdom.
