Ryanair say they are trying to find out what went wrong when the assistance to the back-injured Irish passenger Adrian Keogh did not appear to help him out of the plane after landing at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport.

The plane landed at 11pm on 29 April. Adrian was told that it could take an hour before assistance arrived. The assistance was to consist of a mobile lift that could lift him down from the plane.

Keogh, who has a spinal injury from an accident and has been in a wheelchair since 2015, did not want to wait that long due to pain from the journey and decided to crawl down the flight stairs.

– Not the first time

– This is not the first time I have been stuck on a plane after everyone else has left, says the 37-year-old passenger to BBC.

– It is unacceptable. All I ask is to be able to travel with dignity.

Keogh posted a picture of himself going down the flight stairs and wrote how upset he was by the experience.

Ryanair says it investigated the incident and that special assistance at the airport was provided by a third party.

Landvetter apologizes

A spokesperson for Landvetter Airport says AeroTime that they “deeply regret” Keogh’s experience at the airport.

– Due to several unforeseen events, the assistance service at the airport was affected by longer waiting times and therefore did not meet our usual service standard, even though the airport’s procedures were followed, says the spokesperson.

– As a consequence, the aid service was delayed, but by no means “forgotten”. Again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience Keogh experienced.
