WhatsApp releases 3d avatars for stickers and profile picture | Multimedia

WhatsApp is rolling out an update that will allow users to create 3D avatars of themselves. Avatars can then be sent as “stickers” or used as a personalized profile picture.

The avatar that users can create is not unique to WhatsApp, but can also be used via Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. There are 36 different stickers where you can edit your user avatar. These stickers can be selected in the WhatsApp emoji menu next to the sticker button after the update. By opening the settings in the app and tapping on the profile picture, the user can set a 3d avatar as the profile picture. The update with the affected feature is being deployed globally at the time of writing.

The chat service writes in a blog post that 3D avatars have two functions: “Sending an avatar is so easy and it’s also a super nice way to let your friends and family know how you’re feeling. It’s also ideal for showing yourself without a real photo, so you can ensure your privacy. Parent company Meta promises to keep adding new styles, as well as technical improvements in “lighting, shadows and hair textures.”
