Whatsapp was a classic messenger service for a long time. New functions change usage. Another fundamental change is to come now.

  • Whatsapp* plans to introduce a new, practical function.
  • The function is related to the planned introduction of Multi-device accounts.
  • The development is still in the beta phase.

Kassel – Whatsapp for a long time relied solely on sending messages. One-to-one communication via the messenger service gradually replaced the sending of SMS. In user statistics, Whatsapp is way ahead of alternatives such as iMessage and Telegram.

But meanwhile is approaching Whatsapp with new functions more and more on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. With the introduction of status messages, Whatsapp already introduced a change that is similar to creating stories. The function allows messages to be shared outside of chats. Now I want another function which were previously on Facebook and Instagram, but not on Whatsapp.

Fundamental change in Whatsapp: Development towards a social media platform?

The new function has a great practical advantage. Because Whatsapp apparently wants to allow users to log off from Messenger in the future. After logging out, users will no longer receive notifications of messages and calls. The new function is apparently in connection with another planned change in Whatsapp, reports the technology magazine Chip. This also indicates that Whatsapp is increasingly developing in the direction of a social media platform.

Whatsapp has been working on a new one for some time functionthat should allow users to use an account on multiple devices. An app for iPads is also planned. So far everyone is Whatsapp-Account associated with a phone number and can only be used on one device. Multi-device accounts was previously not available on Whatsapp.

New feature: How can I log out of Whatsapp?

As part of the new multi-device function, searches Whatsapp apparently for a solution how this can be put into practice. A Log-out function is obviously an important prerequisite. The latest iOS beta version (version 2.21.30.16) of Whatsapp contains references to the new function, reports wabetainfo.com. The new function would offer some advantages for WhatsApp users. In order not to receive any messages for a certain period of time, the app would no longer have to be deleted from the smartphone in the future.

But what will the function look like? In the Whatsapp beta version the log-out button replaces the option “Delete my account”. That will probably change in the final version. Chip suspects that there will likely be a new section with options for connected devices. There is a similar option for the Facebook-App. In the Facebook Messenger app, however, there is only the function of making the account “inactive”.

New function on Whatsapp: Release date has not yet been set

Until the introduction of the new Whatsapp function it should take a while. This is mainly due to the fact that the new function will probably be introduced together with the use on multiple devices. Since the Multi-device option represents a big change for Messenger, the developers are apparently working very carefully on the details. So far, there is no date from which the new function will be available.

When developing will Whatsapp presumably pay close attention to clearing data protection concerns out of the way from the start. Because the Messenger has recently been heavily criticized for a change in the terms and conditions. Whatsapp then rowed back on the data protection change. However, the introduction of multi-device accounts will also bring about a change in the terms and conditions. (Sarah Neumeyer) * hna.de is part of the nationwide Ippen digital editorial network
